Background
Dr Catherine O’Donovan completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at La Trobe University; her Doctoral thesis was on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Post trauma responses and general anxiety disorders have become Catherine’s area of interest.
Catherine has worked in a variety of settings including Community Health, Corporate counselling and trauma response. Catherine has run anxiety and assertive communication groups. She has been working in Private Practice for 16 years.
Current Practice
Catherine’s area of special interest is Panic, Anxiety and Phobias. She uses a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach with practical applications to reduce and manage the symptoms of these issues. Catherine assists her clients with managing their fear and avoidance behaviours, provides alternate strategies for anxious and negative thinking, and creates a systematic plan to manage fears and phobias that interfere with everyday life.
Catherine sees adults with a broad range of clinical issues including depression, stress, grief and loss, interpersonal relationships, increasing confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness, managing ongoing clinical disorders such as Bi-Polar disorder, and coping with workplace issues and accidents.
Catherine also works with clients who experience sleep disturbance as a results of anxiety, stress or depression. She has completed training with Dr David Morawetz, Author of Sleep Better Without Drugs.
